Bishop on the Bridge goes smoke-free
March 30, 2007: The Bishop on the Bridge, in High Street, Winchester, has re-opened as a smoke-free pub ahead of the forthcoming ban.
The Fullers pub, which has been redecorated, will provide a comfortable environment for smoking and non-smoking customers alike in its riverside garden. New large umbrellas and patio heaters have been installed, and a canopy will be arriving in the garden soon.
Ewan Black, the pubs manager, said: With the smoking ban just a few months away it made sense to go completely nonsmoking ahead of our competition. Following its minor refurbishment, the pub is spic and span, and provides a beautiful, clean-air environment for our customers.
"We don't want to alienate those who still like a puff, though, and with our classy garden furniture and attractive setting, it's the perfect place for smokers and non-smokers.
"I know there will be a lot of people in and around Winchester who currently don't use pubs due to the smoke, and I hope they will come and have a look. We already sell a lot of fresh, home-cooked, locally-sourced food, and with the pub now smoke-free, it should taste even better."
