High rate of Scottish smoking ban compliance
February 27, 2007: Over 98% of licensed premises in Scotland are complying with the smoking ban, new figures show.
From October 1 to December 31 last year the most fixed notices served on premises non complying with the law were issued in Aberdeen. Renfrewshire topped the table for individuals fined for not complying with the ban.
Patrick Browne, chief executive of the Scottish
Beer and Pub Association,
said: "The latest figures to the end of December suggest that there
has been
broadening of enforcement activity across a wider number of local
authorities in Scotland, but that the overall compliance rate with the
ban
is still above 98% for the licensed trade."
