January 19, 2007: Barracuda Group continued its new openings programme this week when it launched its 40th Varsity bar, in Gloucester.

This opening is the first in a number of planned openings for the company during 2008 and also marks the doubling of the award-winning Varsity estate since Barracuda was established in 2000.

Representing a £100,000 investment in the conversion of the former Gate pub, manager Danielle Harris (pictured, right) battled through the adverse weather in the West to host a successful opening night.

She said: “We had a brilliant first night, with many customers saying we’ve created a ‘wow’ factor that was just what the town needed.”

Barracuda Group operates 40 Varsity bars across the UK, from Stirling in Scotland down to Plymouth.

The estate now totals 215 houses, with a further 30 planned to open this year.
