New Swan team put flood woes behind them

l The newly-re-opened Swan Hotel with new licensees (front) Ralph and Sue Thompson and Sam and Scott Davies
June 8, 2008: The Swan Hotel, in Upton upon Severn, has re-opened after it was devastated by last year's summer floods.
The hotel, which was closed for nearly 12 months, has had around £250,000 spent on it and has welcomed new licensees.
The Marstons-owned hotel has been fully restored, including the renovation of the outside barn and function room. The main bar has been given a new lease of life, along with the 48-cover restaurant and the once waterlogged cellar, which was submerged under more than four feet of water.
New licensees Sue and Ralph Thompson, together with their daughter Sam and son-in-law Scott Davies, have taken on the business and have been pivotal in ensuring the hotel reopened in time for the summer months.
The Swan is a beautiful old English hotel and we have worked hard to make sure that the refurbishment is sympathetic to its character and charm, said Sue.
When we took over the business a lot of the refurbishment was done, but we have still had a lot of work to do to get it ready for the public again. We are all really excited about running the hotel and hope that it will be a success.
