MP bids to rule out patio heater ban

February 8, 2008: A Conservative MP has laid down a Parliamentary Early Day Motion expressing concern about a vote to ban patio heaters.

Nigel Evans MP, who is vice-chairman of All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, says the matter should be a matter for the UK Parliament and not Europe — MEPs have voted to endorse a report that says a timetable should be set to ban the heaters — and notes that the proliferation of the heaters is an unintended consequence of the smoking ban.

Mr Evans, and those who have signed his motion, are calling "on the British Government to protect the British pub industry by ignoring the call to ban these heaters".
