Wetherspoon investing £4m in new staff

April 5, 2008: JD Wetherspoon is to invest £4 million a year in extra staffing at peak times.

Shortage of staff has been a regular criticism of the pubco, as chairman Tim Martin acknowledges in his foreword to the company's latest issue of its magazine, Wetherspoon News.

"Clear, clean tables and floors, as well as swift service, are essential elements in a good pub — and we aim to get this right in the next weeks and months," writes Mr Martin.

"If we don't, please let the editor of Wetherspoon News know and we'll do something about it."
