Five-star status for Wellington Arms

April 3, 2008: The Wellington Arms, in Preston, has scored five stars for its food safety — and its impressive performance has set the standard for Preston City Council’s new food hygiene scheme.

The pub has now been chosen to be the launch platform for the council’s new Preston Foodsafe initiative after it earned gold star status in the council’s drive to raise standards in food hygiene and give people an informed choice about which restaurants and take-aways achieve the best ratings in the city.

Marston’s licensee Cheryl Holmes and her partner George Brumler have run the traditional town centre tavern for more than 16 years. Cheryl welcomed the scheme and said: “Preston Foodsafe is a great idea. We are always very careful about food hygiene and food safety and we are delighted to achieve top marks. We want our customers to enjoy their meal, but also for them to have full confidence in our standards.

“We were delighted to be chosen to host the launch event for Foodsafe and to receive our five star certificate from the mayor. I think lots of people will be interested in the results of this initiative, which I’m sure will help to raise standards throughout the city.”
