Badger wins Tesco prize for third time

October 31, 2005: Fresh from taking the World Champion Ale prize at the Brewing Industry International Awards, Badger First Gold has been named best beer for spring/summer 2006 at the Tesco Brewing Awards.

Hall & Woodhouse’s premium-bottled beer is a golden blonde light summer beer, fresh and grassy, with a zippy fruit aroma. It has a bold crisp taste, with cool flavours of white grape and melon, and a subtle bitterness.

This is the third time that Hall & Woodhouse has won the Tesco award. Rick Payne, Hall & Woodhouse brands manager, commented: “This has been a fantastic couple of months for us; first Badger First Gold wins World Champion ale at the Brewing Industry International Awards and now we have won the Tesco Beer Challenge for the third time."

The Tesco judges were looking for “a radical summer ale that refreshes the palate on a warm day, whilst also providing a great accompaniment to a light summer meal or picnic. This easy drinking beer, crafted with traditional ingredients, will be served direct from the fridge at an ABV not exceeding 5%.”

Badger First Gold Premium bottled ale was also shortlisted for an innovation award in the Tesco contest for its use of a taste chart on the back label that provides customers with an on-pack guide to the beer's key taste notes.
