Beer celebrates Rail Ale initiative
March 30, 2007: Skinners Brewery teamed up with the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership to launch a new Rail Ale for 2007, available at a number of pubs on the new Rail Ale Trail running on the Atlantic coast line between Newquay and Par in Cornwall.
The initiative encourages train travel, with passengers sampling real ale and collecting stamps that can be exchanged for T-shirts and badges.
The new 3.8% ale, which will be available at pubs within walking distance of branchline railways stations, was officially launched at Newquay station, with guests including representatives of CAMRA Kernow, the Cornish branch of the Campaign For Real Ale.
Lyn Winter, representing the rail partnership, said: Rail Ale Trails have been extremely popular with residents and visitors in Cornwall. We now have a trail for all of the Cornish branch lines and hope that more people will enjoy taking part.
Andy Hawken, Skinners sales manager, said: The Rail Ale Trail is a brilliant idea and enables people to have a few drinks while travelling around Cornwall.
And CAMRA Kernow chairman Rod Davis agreed there was no better way to spend leisure time than by travelling on this scenic branch line, enjoying a pint or two of excellent real ale and not having to worry about driving".
