Licensee becomes Theakstons 'ambassador'
l Simply the best: Theakstons 'ambassador' licensee Chris Wraith (right) with Theakstons executive director Simon Theakston as the Chequers Inn
September 29, 2006: A Yorkshire brewer has recognised one of its long-standing customers of more than 30 years as a Theakstons 'ambassador.
Licensee Chris Wraith looks after the Chequers Inn, in Ledsham, West Yorkshire, a pub well known for its friendly staff and great food and has served Theakstons Best Bitter behind the bar since taking over the reins from his father.
To celebrate the occasion, Chris was invited to join executive director Simon Theakston at the Masham-based brewery for an evening tour and dinner where he was presented with a signed certificate.
Chris said: It was a real honour to be recognised by Theakstons. I have dealt with Simon Theakston over the years and have come to feel like part of the family. I am grateful for the support that they continuously offer and was delighted to be invited to the brewery to receive my acknowledgment.
The Chequers Inn is a local pub that is the centre of the community, just as a pub should be. I have been a landlord for over 30 years and I have been dealing with Theakstons for all that time. My regulars love Theakstons Best Bitter and it is my favourite too!
Mr Theakston said: It is a real pleasure to be able to recognise licensees who have shown commitment to Theakstons ales and have been long-standing customers. The Chequers Inn is a wonderful pub that is at the heart of the community and I am proud that Theakstons Best Bitter has been behind the bar as long as Chris has!
The pub is one of England's old traditional Inns with a history that can be traced back to 1540. It is open Monday to Saturday but remains closed on a Sunday after it was originally closed on Sundays 170 years ago.
