Nominations sought for CAMRA Club of the Year
January 29, 2007: The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is asking club members and officials from all over the country to consider whether their real ale club is good enough to be considered as the CAMRA Club of the Year for 2009.
Co-ordinator John Holland said: There are thousands of clubs across the country that offer a terrific place to enjoy a pint of good quality real ale and the company of friends. Our annual Club of the Year competition is a well-regarded national contest to decide which club shows the greatest commitment to high quality real ale.
"The winner of the CAMRA Club of the Year competition 2008 will be announced in May, but we are very keen to receive self-nominations for next years competition now.
The deadline for self-nominated entries is March 31, 2008, and the winner will be announced in May next year.
CAMRA believes that Great Britain has around 30,000 clubs that could possibly enter the competition.
In 2007, Greetland Community & Sporting Association, in West Yorkshire, won the title. The judges report said: This club is what a community centre is all about young and old mixing with the more sporty types, whether it be outdoor or indoor events. Good quality beers and fairly priced.
Nominations should be sent to: Ian Charlton, 11 Oxford Road, St Johns, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF1 3LB or e-mail ian.charlton@blueyonder.co.uk
