Thirst for power
April 28, 2005: Labour Landslide Bitter has grabbed 37% of Asda's 'vote with your throat' poll following the first two weeks of sales of the supermarket's special range of election ales.
The Conservatives' Tory Triumph has slipped back to just 29%, with Lib Dem Lift Off hot on its heels with 26%. The ales are all priced at £1.48 and available in 220 Asda stores across Britain.
They are brewed by J W Lees for Asda and are, rumour has it, all the same brew with different labels.
"We are encouraging shoppers to continue voting with their throats, although it appears Labour has taken an unassailable lead," said Asda beer buyer Ged Futter. "Lib Dem Lift Off drinkers are clearly the most undecided, with many buying all three party ales together.
"Unlike the election, which ever way you look at it you cant lose with one of our election ales. If your party wins you can pop one open to celebrate. Or if the news is bad you can down a few to drown your sorrows."
