Petition to save Britain's only brewing museum
March 28, 2008: An online petition to save the Brewery Museum in Burton on Trent is being backed by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The petition has been set up by a local paper, the Burton Mail, and calls upon owner Coors to think again about its decision to close the facility.
The building is Britain only museum of brewing, located in the town that has traditionally been the capital of British beer production.
Nik Antona, of the Burton branch of CAMRA, said: "The former Bass Museum now the Coors Visitor Centre faces closure after the American brewing giant decided that it could no longer afford its £1 million yearly running costs.
"The Burton Mail has launched a campaign to save the museum from closure by calling on the Government to secure it charitable status, opening the door for potential new funding sources.
