Discovery tops golden ale poll
August 27, 2005: Fuller's new Discovery blonde beer (3.9%) topped a poll of visitors' favourite Golden Ales at this year's Great British Beer Festival.
More than 200 visitors voted, returning forms that were printed in the festival programme - any of the golden ales at the festival could be voted for.
Tony Jerome, of CAMRA, said: "The golden ale category is an increasingly important one for the brewers of this country. The last five champion beers of Britain have been golden ales and they are playing an important role in attracting new drinkers to real ales."
John Roberts, Fuller's beer and brands director, said: "We're delighted by Discovery's performance at the GBBF 2005. Our stand was busy every day and the amount of beer sold was phenomenal.
"When we launched Discovery we wanted it to appeal to both real ale and lager drinkers. Feedback from our pubs suggests the lager drinkers are taking to it wholeheartedly and this result shows that traditional real ale lovers are fans as well."
