Zerodegrees opens in Cardiff

May 27, 2008: Zerodegrees restaurant microbrewery has opened its fourth venue in Cardiff.

Occupying a prime location in the Queens and Royal Garage, opposite the Millennium Stadium on Westgate Street, the award-winning restaurant is built around a state of the art microbrewery producing a selection of fresh, additive-free, healthy beers, brewed on site and in full view of the establishment’s extensive open-plan, split-level drinking and dining areas.

The restaurant microbrewery concept is the brainchild of Dipam Patel, who has already opened highly successful Zerodegrees establishments in London, Bristol and Reading.

Zerodegrees Cardiff marks the start of a new phase in the group’s national expansion strategy, which plans to take the brand to a number of prominent towns and cities across the UK.

Dipam Patel and business partner Nick Desai have lots of experience in this industry, having owned several successful restaurants and bars in South East London before embarking on the Zerodegrees concept in 1999 — brewing beer on site and cooking food from fresh ingredients in a contemporary restaurant setting.

Dipam Patel said: “We had wanted to open our second branch in Cardiff over six years ago but couldn’t find the right premises, so we’re delighted to be finally launching in Wales. Cardiff is a vibrant and developing city and we think the perfect setting for Zerodegrees.

“We’re planning steady expansion over the next few years, with regional satellite bars and restaurants being supplied with fresh beer from each microbrewery hub. We are always looking for new sites and Southampton is likely to be the next location. However, we won’t be ruling out other areas in Wales.”

While the bar area will serve up to five freshly brewed house beers, the restaurant will serve an international menu, including kilo pots of mussels, gourmet pizzas and speciality sausages, sourcing ingredients from local Welsh suppliers where possible. The restaurant’s prime location, just a stone’s throw away from the Millennium Stadium, means it will have widespread appeal to both sports fans and the cosmopolitan evening crowd.

The building, which has been under construction since early 2008, incorporates the mechanics of the brewery into its architecture.
