St Austell opens new west Cornwall depot
January 26, 2005: St Austell Brewery has rationalised its distribution in west Cornwall was the opening of a new £750,000 depot on Redruth's Cardrew industrial estate.
It replaces the company's two distribution centres at Falmouth and Hayle and is part of an ongoing drive to improve customer service. The new facility has created one full-time job and secured the future employment of staff who worked at the two sites that have been closed.
The 17,000 square ft depot will supply an extensive range of St Austell Brewery beers and national brand lagers, soft drinks, wines and spirits, to customers across the west of the county. Its opening also sees the start of a high speed service for customers in which anything not in stock will be delivered within 24 hours of being ordered.
St Austell Brewery's operation's director, Mike Voyzey, said the launch of the Redruth Depot marked the opening of a significant new chapter in the company's history.
"The company is investing in west Cornwall and showing a real commitment both financially and to the people of the area by opening up the Redruth depot. It will be much bigger than the previous two depots and from a customer point of view we will be supplying a much bigger product range and offering longer opening times," he said.
Mr Voyzey added that all jobs from the Falmouth and Hayle depots had been secured, and reassured customers that they would continue to be served by the same draymen.
"Customers are very fond of the draymen who make the deliveries to their businesses. I am pleased to announce that they will still be served by those friendly faces with which they have become familiar," he said.
The depot is being managed by Mark Taylor, whose position has been created especially for the site. People across Cornwall may be familiar with the Taylor family, as his father Trevor is often seen on the roads driving the Brewery's vintage van.
