Fine Raisin Beer wins world award

November 24, 2007: Cains' Fine Raisin beer has been named best fruit beer in the annual World Beer Awards 2007.

The raisin beer, launched in 2003, is a rich fruit and amber ale and has a refreshing taste due to an infusion of the raisins, while Goldings hops give depth, density and complexity.

A panel of international award judges tasted their way through the ales to create a shortlist of their favourites. The UK’s top brewers were then asked to select their top beers in a blind taste test and the final winners were chosen by award judges. Judges praised Cains Fine Raisin beer for its rich flavour and broad appeal.

Roger Protz, chairman of the World Beer Awards judging panel, said: “Cains has taken on board the famous saying ‘innovate or die’. It's no longer enough for a brewer to make mild, bitter and lager, important though they are. Consumers are looking for excitement and new aromas and flavours in their beer.

“Fine Raisin beer is a brilliant development and reaches out to a new audience of drinkers of all ages who may find conventional beers too bitter and hoppy for their taste and are entranced by the rich fruity character of Fine Raisin beer.

“This is an exciting time for beer drinkers. More and more craft brewers throughout the world are making beers bursting with distinctive and exciting aromas and flavours.

"The judges have been overwhelmed by the quality of the beers entered for the competition and it has been an immensely difficult task choosing the winners. I hope that not only the winners but all the beers in the competition will gain greater awareness and will delight drinkers, especially those new to beer.”

Cains chief operating officer Ajmail Dusanj, said: “A huge amount of hard work goes into developing, brewing and launching any new ale. To receive such a high-profile award is a fantastic endorsement, not only for Cains but also for the craft brewing sector, which is responsible for creating hundreds of new and innovative products each year.

“Our Fine Raisin beer is continuing to go from strength to strength. Not only has the bottled version proved a great seller, but the ale has even been used by top North West chefs to create unique new meals such as Raisin Beer Glazed Ham.”
