Council could thwart Moorhouse's plans
June 24, 2006: The boss of Moorhouse's brewery has not ruled moving out of Burnley should it be refused permission for much-needed expansion.
Managing director David Grant has plans for a brewhouse than could produce between 500 and 700 barrels a week, in land close to the existing brewery. He also wants to create a visitor centre, training centre and bars and shops, in all creating around 35 jobs.
"We have been talking to the council, but we certainly do not want to move out of Burnley and we are in the process of twisting their arms," Mr Grant told the Burnley Express.
"My wish and desire is to stay in Burnley. We have been here for a long time and we do not want to move, we are part of the heritage and to leave would be a real shame ... However, commercial decisions have to be made and if we cannot agree with the local authority then we have got to look at ways of protecting the businesses."
