Tusker profits help African water projects
June 23, 2008: East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), the company behind imported Tusker lager, is ploughing profits back into initiatives on its home continent.
Water
of Life is one area to which the EABL Foundation has dedicated time and
resources. There are a significant number of communities in East Africa
that, due to circumstances like lack of rainfall and poor infrastructure,
have no access to clean safe water.
The foundation has teamed up with various agencies in order to provide reliable, safe and, most importantly, sustainable water supplies. Heavy investment has meant that the foundation has been able to help thousands of people.
This water initiative reduces the incidence of waterborne diseases and frees time for the women and children, who otherwise would have to search for this life source, to look to alternative income-generating activities.
Tusker is brewed in the Kenyan Rift Valley using equatorial malted barley. Its heritage dates back to 1922 and its enjoys a strong following in East Africa.
It is named in memory of the brewery's founder George Hurst, who was killed by a rogue elephant in 1923. The iconic elephant logo and distinctive black and gold make the brand stand out from the crowd.
Tusker is available in Tesco, Sainsburys, Booths, Macro and a variety of bars and pubs and all sales help to boost EABL charitable work.
