Traditional Belgian beers — from Denmark

February 22, 2007: Carlsberg is introducing two special imported beers to the UK, brewed according to the Belgian wheat beer tradition.

l Jacobsen Saaz Blonde

Until now, Jacobsen beers have been a coveted secret among the Scandinavians ,but now these super premium beers have ventured from their shores. Presented in 75cl bottles, Jacobsen Saaz Blonde and Jacobsen Bramley Wit are perfect for sharing with food, says Carlsberg, or simply savoured on their own.

Both beers are named after the brewery's Danish founder JC Jacobsen and are brewed a special microbrewery at the Carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen.

Gorgeously aromatic, Jacobsen Bramley Wit (4.6%) is an unfiltered wheat beer with a refreshingly light, discreet bitterness and refreshing hint of apple. The natural juices of Bramley and Belle de Boskoop apples and fresh orange peel lend an acidity, enhanced further by gentle undertones of coriander and clove. When poured, it is white, slightly cloudy, with an attractive creamy head.

Jacobsen Saaz Blonde (7.1%) is brewed according to the Belgian tradition for a light top fermented beer — a 'blonde'— which indeed, has an attractive blonde head when poured. Czech hop Saaz holds the character of pine needles and gives the beer a rounded, aristocratic flavour. Elegant aromatic notes of fruit, clove and coriander are enhanced by gentle traces of angelica root. The result is dry and smooth with a hint of caramel and a moderate bitter finish.

The premium and distinctive flavours of the two beers make them ideal to complement food, representing a great opportunity to experiment at home and when entertaining. Saaz Blonde works beautifully with roast meats such as chicken or lamb, while Bramley Wit lends itself to Thai or fish dishes.

It was JC Jacobsen who unlocked the secret that it is the absolute purity of yeast which results in the most perfect beer, spending 36 years refining the yeast purification process. This is now copied by brewers all over the world.

l Carlsberg Jacobsen Saaz Blonde and Bramley Wit are presented in 75cl bottles priced £3.49 and are available from all stockists of quality beer, including select Sainsbury's and Morrison's stores. Both beers will also soon be available from Geronimo Inns.
