Why there's less choice in Lewes
October 21, 2006: Lewes, Sussex, has less real ale choice because Greene King has bought six local pubs and removed the popular Harvey's beer.
That's the conclusion of an article in the Sussex Express, which asked Harvey's why it did not bid for six pubs owned by Beard's when they came on the market.
Harvey's marketing manager explained that the firm did indeed bid for the pubs, but could not have anticipated that Greene King would have submitted a sealed bid at 25% over market valuation.
