Everards pubs set the gold standard for beer
September 21, 2006: Six pubs in the East Midlands are the first in the Everards estate to be presented with the Gold Level Beautiful Beer Award, a scheme designed to highlight pubs that serve top-quality real ales.
The Bull's Head in Cosby, the New Inn in Enderby, The Tram Depot in Cambridge, The Elephant and Castle in Thurlaston, the Coach & Horses in Markfield, and the Lindens in Mountsorrel have all passed the strict inspection to be presented with the award.
The Beautiful Beer programme has been launched by the British Beer and Pub Association (BPPA) to revitalise the image of beer, acknowledge excellence in pubs and also to offer a seal of quality for consumers. To gain a Beautiful Beer Award, licensees have to register and are then visited by a qualified Beautiful Beer assessor, who will carry out a full appraisal of the pub.
Successful licensees receive a Beautiful Beer Award plaque to display outside the pub, and a listing on the Beautiful Beer Awards website where consumers are encouraged to visit to find a pub serving great beer. Consumers are also given the opportunity, via the website, to report pubs where they have had a bad experience so that standards are constantly being monitored.
Quality assurance manager for Everards, Mark Tetlow, said: "The Beautiful Beer Award is an excellent platform on which all pubs should be measured to improve and maintain the standards and the image of beer.
"We selected our six top pubs and invited them to apply for the award. All the licensees rose to the challenge and worked really hard along with their teams to make sure they passed the rigorous testing first time round.
"We are thrilled to have Beautiful Beer Gold Level Award pubs in our estate and we will endeavour to get all our pubs accredited in the future."
