Young's chairman dies at 85
September 21, 2006: Young's chairman John Young has died at the age of 85 after a battle with cancer.
Chairman of the firm since 1962, John Young was the great-great grandson of Charles Allen Young, who took over the Ram Brewery, Wandsworth, with a fellow businessman in 1831.
Mr Young had joined the company in 1954, following war service as a fighter pilot.
His death comes at a time of great change for Young's. The company has recently merged its brewing operation with Charles Wells to become Wells & Young's.
