Abbot Reserve is East Anglia champion

May 20, 2008: Greene King Abbot Reserve has been named beer of the festival and best beer above 5% ABV at the Campaign for Real Ale East Anglian Beer Festival.

One of Greene King’s fastest selling and most popular seasonal brews, the super premium ale was judged the region’s favourite against 72 of the best beers in the East Anglia region, from 29 of the area's brewers.

The competition was judged on a combination of festival customers' votes and also the rate at which the beers were drunk during the first three days of the festival, held in Bury St Edmunds.

Festival organiser Guy Ransom said: "I am delighted that the town's home brewery has won this award against some superb competition. Being a great tasting beer was the only criteria that our customers judged the award against and Abbot Reserve emerged as a clear winner.”

Greene King brewer, Craig Bennett, will be presented with the awards at a post-festival party at the Brandon Brewery on May 31.

Justin Adams, managing director of the Greene King Brewing Company, said: “We’re really delighted that Abbot Reserve has been recognised and awarded best beer of the festival by ale lovers. It was great to showcase Abbot Reserve at the CAMRA festival in its home town and even better that it was voted the region’s best.”

Following its popularity over the festive season in 2007, the quality ale will return as a seasonal brew in November this year.

Greene King Abbot Reserve (6.5% ABV) is a key brand in Greene King’s seasonal cask ale range. A distinctive, full bodied, smooth and mature beer, it is bursting with rich fruit cake and toffee flavours.
