Brewdog's double win in World Beer Cup

April 20, 2008: Like the World Series in baseball, the World Beer Cup is something of a misnomer. Held annually in the United States, it has a huge bias towards beers from that country, presumably because of the difficulty of shipping foreign beers for tasting.

Although it was interesting to note that a lot of the winners in German-style categories actually came from Germany, whereas those gaining success in the English-style categories were mainly Statside brews.

All the same, some UK brewers did achieve success in this huge competition, which boasts 93 classes.

Brewdog, of Fraserburgh, Scotland, took two prizes — a gold with Paradox Grain in the wood- and barrel-aged strong beer section, and bronze with Punk IPA in the international pale ale category,

And there was gold, too, for Roosters, of Knaresborough, with its YPA (Yorkshire Pale Ale) in the category for English-style summer ales.

In another English style category — for English-style pale ales — there was a bronze award for InBev's Bass.

In the coffee flavoured beer category, Meantime, of London, picked up a silver award for its Meantime Coffee Porter.
