Fuller's win gold in the USA
April 20, 2006: Two Fuller's beers have won gold medals at the bi-annual Brewers Association World Beer Cup awards in the USA.
Fuller's ESB (5.5%) was voted best English-style extra special bitter while the brewery's Vintage Ale, a special edition 8.5% brew, was awarded the gold medal in the old ale category.
John Keeling, Fuller's head brewer, said: "This is a terrific result for us. To win two gold medals among such strong opposition is further proof of the enduring quality of our beers, even 5,000 miles from Chiswick.
"As well as being the world's original, it's great that our ESB is now confirmed as the best."
John Roberts, Fuller's beer and brands director, added: "The USA is a big market for Fuller's beers, so we're extremely delighted with these awards.
"Our brewing team works very hard to make our beers as consistently good as they can be and they fully deserve the gold medals. Vintage Ale is now in its ninth year and it's very rewarding to gain a further accolade for this great beer."
The Brewers Association Beer World Cup, presented at the Washington State Trade & Convention Center, in Seattle, Washington, is a global competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognises the most outstanding beers produced today. The 2006 awards saw a 42 per cent growth in entries, with a record 2,221 entries from 540 breweries in 56 countries.
