Bay View owners accept award plaque

l Alison Carter and Clive Mansell, of the award-winning Bay View Inn
April 20, 2006: The owners of the Bay View Inn, at Widemouth Bay in North Cornwall, have taken delivery of a plaque recognising their Publican award for freehouse of the year.
Alison Carter and Clive Mansell accepted a plaque from representatives of commercial estate agents Christie + Co, of Exeter, who were award sponsors.
The Bay View Inn was named the UK's top freehouse at
the pub trade's answer to the Oscars, on March 21 at London's Grosvenor
House Hotel, when they collected their award from comedian and Never
Mind the Buzzcocks star Bill Bailey.
Christie + Co director Colin Wellstead, who is on the panel of judges,
said: "The freehouse of the year is the epitome of recognition in
the industry and is highly sought after by the best freehouses in the
UK."
The Bay View, which overlooks the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean and a beautiful sandy surfing beach, provides an award-winning alfresco outdoor bar and table service.
Alison and Clive bought the pub two years ago and made the most of its location by creating a fabulous raised decked terrace area, with seating for 70 and stunning views.
Food is also served in the atmospheric bar or light and airy restaurant. The inn's imaginative menu of freshly prepared food is based on local ingredients and Clive even goes sea-fishing before he cooks the daily catch.
The Bay View Inn, which also offers letting accommodation and serves real ales, appeals to a hugely varied customer base.
