Award for pubs that serve Beautiful Beer
April 20, 2006: Pubs serving excellent draught and bottled beer are to be recognised and rewarded under the new Beautiful Beer awards scheme, launched by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA).
The awards scheme is part of the Beautiful Beer campaign to change the image of beer. Ensuring that pub customers enjoy a positive experience of beer is one of the campaigns central platforms and the new scheme is designed to give pubgoers a "badge of quality assurance" to help them make an informed choice about the outlets they visit.
The awards scheme has already won widespread approval from BBPA member companies, with 1,600 pubs set to be assessed for an award during 2006.
The Beautiful Beer award is offered at two levels. The gold level is for pubs offering excellent beer, and assesses pubs on all aspects of beer quality from cellar maintenance to beer temperature and glass cleanliness. It offers not only a recognition of excellence for the pub, but also a seal of quality for consumers.
Platinum is a more challenging award, which assesses not only beer quality, but also the presentation of beer in the pub. This will include the range of beers on offer, glassware, beer knowledge demonstrated by staff, promotion of beers via chalkboards or beer lists and beer and food matching.
To gain a Beautiful Beer award, licensees firstly need to decide which level they can achieve, by checking the required standards on the Beautiful Beer website.
