Steak pie is Cumbria's favourite pub meal
November 19, 2006: Steak pie has been revealed as Cumbria's favourite pub meal, following a search by new website enjoyyourmeal.co.uk. Close runner-up was steak and chips, with fish and chips third.
Roast dinners in particular beef came
in fourth, while sausage
and mash was the fifth, most of the voters for this dish preferring the
sausage to be a Cumberland ring.
Jon Green, of enjoyyourmeal.co.uk, said: "The pie votes represent a reassuring thumbs-up for traditional pub food fare. Cumbria is a great place to survey because we get such a wide cross-section of opinions, including locals and tourists.
"Virtually everyone who we approached had an opinion,
demonstrating the
importance of pub food socially. There was a general enthusiasm from all
respondents for fresh local ingredients whatever their first choice
meal may
be."
The survey celebrates the launch of an interactive online
league table to be
published on enjoyyourmeal.co.uk. The league table will present food enthusiasts
throughout the UK with a free weekly online vote for their favourite pub
meal.
The favourite meals are then displayed in league table
format, with popular
offerings enjoying promotion to the premier pub food league and less popular
food suffering the ignominy of relegation.
Jon added: "It's a fun way of gauging the public's current pub food preferences. We hope that pub meal connoisseurs will enjoy offering their opinions. It will be interesting to note any seasonal trends too. We hope that in time that the league tables will be considered a useful barometer for the pub food industry which publicans will be able to consult when finalising menus."
