Hobgoblin aims to be 'cool' this summer

May 19, 2008: Wychwood is to run its first ever promotion of Hobgoblin as a "cool" beer — quite literally one to be served straight from the fridge rather than the recommended cask temperature of 12 to 14 degrees Celsius.

Head brewer Jeremy Moss said: "Most British cask ales are best served at 12 to 14 degrees as this allows these beers’ wonderful, complex flavours to show themselves to best effect.

"Serve them too warm and they can taste lacklustre, losing both their flavour profile and their quality of refreshment; serve them too cold, and their aromas and subtleties go into hiding and the beauty of the barley and hops is lost.

“But Hobgoblin is special in that its blend of caramel, chocolate and pale malts give it a very special body and make it ‘a beer for all seasons’.

"Served in winter at 12 to 14 degrees its caramel flavours give a warming, comforting glow, whilst its infusion of Styrian Golding hops give it a seductively refreshing, orange-peel finish.

“Served straight from the fridge in summer, its caramel flavours recede, allowing the refreshment value of the beer and its hop fruit to come to the fore."

Hobgoblin’s Cool Promotion offers drinkers the chance to win a fridge full of Hobgoblin’s legendary ruby beer this summer.

The promotion, on offer on the 500ml bottle and the eight-pack, will run for 23 weeks over summer, across all off-licences and supermarkets.
