Black Sheep team wassail with Thatchers
March 19, 2008: Black Sheep Brewery staff have been getting a taste for apples, helping Thatchers Cider, in Somerset, to maintain an age-old tradition.
A team from Black Sheep which supplies Thatchers Cider to a number of publicans across the North joined Thatchers for a 'wassail' an orchard-based celebration of cider and song, which, according to ancient custom helps to ensure a bumper apple harvest in the summer.
The team were also introduced to Thatchers' new Ice Gold system, which Black Sheep is also supplying to the trade. Thatchers is believed to be the first cider producer to introduce the system, which dispenses frozen cider into a glass, alleviating the need for ice.
One of the first pubs to install Iced Gold through Black Sheep was Alberts, in Harrogate, a fine dining restaurant and bar which Black Sheep has supplied for more than two years.
Black Sheep marketing manager Helen Allison said: We were delighted to help Thatchers maintain this old country tradition, whilst finding out more about the independent company and its products. We have supplied Thatchers' range of ciders to publicans across the North for a number of years now as part of the distribution support we give to the trade.
Thatchers managing director Martin Thatcher added: Were hoping for a bumper apple crop this year thanks to the Black Sheep team, who wassailed brilliantly.
"We have an excellent distribution partnership with the brewery and plan a return trip to see Black Sheeps expanded brewery and visitor centre in Masham.
