Ring o' Bells brews champion bottled beer

March 18, 2006: One and All, produced by the Ring 0' Bells Brewery, in Launceston, Cornwall, has been named champion bottled beer of Britain by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) at its annual conference in Bristol. This is the first time the brewery has won a national award and it is expecting an upturn in demand for the 5.2 per cent ABV ale.

The beer won the gold medal at the Society's South West Beer Festival last year and, in doing so, went on to compete against the winners of the country's eight other regions to win the national accolade. The trophy was presented to the brewery's technical consultant David Smith at the conference but will be formally be presented to the brewery at the South West Festival in Newton Abbot next month. David, who devised the recipe for the beer was delighted with its success explaining that it is one of his favourite strong ales.

The Ring 0 Bells is one of Cornwall's oldest breweries and produces a wide range of cask-conditioned ales for the Cornish market, which are distributed through Jolly's Drinks, of Redruth, and for the national market through LWC, based in Manchester. Last year the brewery signed an agreement with SIBA to take part in its direct delivery scheme, which ensures its range of beers are made available to thousands of pubs across the country.

The brewery also linked up with Cornwall Radio Station Pirate FM's Pirate Trust, which operates exclusively for those in need throughout the South West. For every bottle of One and All and all its other beers sold, the brewery makes a donation to the trust.

One and All is brewed by head brewer Adrian Carter and has a rich colour with a sweet floral aroma. It is described as light and easy going, with a hint of malty flavour.

Sales manager Paul Symon said: "We are over the moon that our small brewery, tucked away in the heart of Cornwall, has beaten some of the biggest and best-known brewing names in the industry to win this national award."
