Fuller's pub tops Berks CAMRA poll
March 18, 2006: Fuller's Ship Inn, Wokingham, has been voted pub of the Year 2006 by the Berkshire South-East branch of CAMRA. The pub, run by Emma Buckle and Brian Bell, beat more than 100 other pubs in the branch's catchment area.
The award, which is decided by an open vote of branch members, assesses pubs on six important criteria. These are the quality of the pub's beer/cider/perry, atmosphere, service, clientele mix, value and sympathy with CAMRA's aims.
Branch chairman Sue Thirlaway said: "I am delighted the Ship has been voted pub of the year. Emma has put so much effort into making the pub a lively, vibrant place, with an emphasis on cask ales.
"It has become a firm favourite with CAMRA members, as this award shows. She always makes a special effort to secure some of Fuller's seasonal and special brews, and she keeps us informed, which is most appreciated."
Fuller's retail director, Simon Emeny, added: "Winning this award is a fantastic achievement for Emma and Brian at The Ship, and congratulations also go to Helena at the Old Hatchet.
"We have always said that by focusing on the four key pillars of great cask beer, quality food, fine wines and fabulous service, we can make our pubs the very best in their area."
