New managers keen to build Theakston sales

February 18, 2008: Yorkshire brewer T&R Theakston has expanded its sales team by promoting three regional sales development managers.

Melvyn Pulfer, Alan Bould and Kath Blamire have been hired in the East Pennines, North East and Cumbria and West Pennines respectively, to travel the regions meeting landlords and promoting the Theakstons range of fine ales.

THEAKSTONS

Theakstons was established in Masham, in North Yorkshire in 1827 and is one of the country’s oldest established traditional ale brewers. The Theakstons name is one of the most famous and highly regarded brands in the country. Operating as an independent brewer, it has embarked on a whole series of actions designed to put the famous range of ales back at the forefront of the British traditional ale scene.

The team join Freddie Price, who started with Theakstons early in 2007 and who covers the South West of England. They boast a combined 112 years of industry experience.

Melvyn, originally from the East Midlands, has 28 years experience in the brewing industry at John Smiths, in Nottingham, Coventry, Leicester and Wakefield. Since joining Theakstons in November he has secured several new accounts in the Pontefract and Wakefield areas.

Alan, originally from Newcastle, has 16 years experience in the brewing industry. He started at the Federation Brewery in 1992, which was then taken over in 2005 by Scottish & Newcastle, where he continued to work until 2007. He also began working for Theakstons in November and has already secured new business in the Isle of Man and Cumbria.

Kath, originally from Chorley, has 25 years experience in the brewing industry, three of which were with Porter Lancastrian and a further 22 with Scottish & Newcastle. She began with Theakstons in November and has already secured new pumps in Central Lancashire.

Executive director Simon Theakston said: “I am delighted at the acquisition of these three very experienced ambassadors. We have a very busy year ahead, with some exciting plans, and the ambassadors will be in the perfect position to promote our beers throughout the country.”
