No beer until John O'Groat's!

August 17, 2007: Two Cornishmen are in training for a charity cycle ride across Britain — with a special thank you present lined up for one of their sponsors.

Heron Wallace, 30, and Jamie Jones, 31, will set off for Land’s End from John O’Groat's on Sunday, September 2, raising money for Cornwall Mobility Centre, Celtic Storm and CLIC Sargent.

Heron has worked for the past eight years as a reprographics specialist at Barnabus Design In Print, Threemilestone. In that time he has been heavily involved in various projects for Truro-based Skinner's Brewery, who have agreed to sponsor him on the daunting end-to-end ride.

In return, Heron will be taking with him a bottle of Skinner's Cornish Lager – but it will not be opened until the epic ride is completed. Instead, he will take photographs of the bottle at various locations all along the near-1,000 mile route and then present them as an album of portraits to brewery boss Steve Skinner.

“It’s just something that has developed in my spare time,” explained Heron. “I have already given Steve about half a dozen such shots taken here in Cornwall, so it seemed a good idea to extend it to the end-to-end ride — and by the end of it all I reckon we will be very much in need of its contents!”

l Skinner's is also sponsoring Glenn Eldridge and Guy Blackford, from Newquay, Cornwall, in their bid to create a new world record by paddle-boarding the 28 miles from the Isles of Scilly to Cornwall.
