Shepheard Neame backs veterans' event

May 15, 2008: Shepherd Neame is to support a Veterans' Day event to be held at Dockyard Chatham on July 5.

The event will include a commemorative church service, a veterans' parade, entertainment in the Veterans' Reunion Hall and a Beating Retreat and Ceremonial Sunset on the parade ground.

All current or former service personnel from both the regulars and the reserves can attend free of charge — pass application forms are available at Chatham Historic Dockyard's website.

The event, which will also mark the centenary of the modern Territorial Army, also includes plenty of activities for youngsters, with displays of military hardware and the chance to drive a crane, take aim on a laser range or ride the waves in an assault boat.

The event will raise funds for the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust and for the Help for Heroes charity, which aims to raise enough money to build a new gym and swimming pool to help service personnel to recover from injuries and to rebuild their lives.

A regular supporter of veterans' charities, Shepherd Neame has launched a limited edition Help for Heroes Spitfire Ale in 250ml bottles with sales raising funds for the charity.
