EU urges barmaid cover-up

August 14, 2005: A European Union directive aimed at making barmaids cover up when working outside is being criticised by South-East pub operators, website This is Local London reports.

The Optical Radiation Directive warns that bar staff in revealing tops risk skin cancer from over-exposure to the sun and urges them to cover up.

The Health and Safety Executive says that pubs could be closed down for disregarding the directive.
