Dark and handsome — Hook Norton Double Stout

December 13, 2007: The turkey is not yet in the oven, but Hook Norton is already planning for a Happy New Year with its latest draught seasonal beer Double Stout. The 4.8% ABV brew will be on sale in pubs throughout January and February.

This is a smooth, full-bodied stout with a refreshing hoppy aftertaste.

Hook Norton managing director James Clarke said: “It is class in a glass. As it is poured into a glass, marvel at the beer’s luscious blackness, and the flourish of its bubbly head. The nose is dark and full of chocolate flavours, both dark and plain.

“In the mouth it bursts forth with an array of cocoa, roasted barley and coffee flavours. Smooth and hoppy there is even a hint of hazel nuts. The aftertaste is long, rich and lingering, with great depth.”

Hook Norton Double Stout is brewed with proportions of black malt for colour and toast flavour and brown malt for dryness. It uses a recipe over 100 years old. Its brewing was revived in 1996 after a break of 79 years.
