Beer Academy at BBC Good Food Show
December 13, 2006: The Beer Academy's George Philliskirk completed his latest round of consumer tastings with three sell-out performances at this year's BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham.
The tasting theatre hosted 100 guests at each half-hour session, with a selection of British and continental beers including Cains finest lager, Fraoch heather ale, Duvel, Brakspear Triple with mature cheddar, and Liefman's Kriek cherry beer with 72% cocoa dark chocolate.
Dr Philliskirk said: "There was excellent audience response, with good questions, particularly from women. The range of natural ingredients in beer always amazes people, and the idea of matching beer with food really appealed.
"Oz Clarke, who was giving wine talks in the same theatre, has always been a great enthusiast for the Beer Academy and it was good of him to lend us his support.
"My talks at the BBC show, entitled Beautiful Beer with the Beer Academy, looked at explaining the diversity of beer styles available in Britain, their natural ingredients and the effect each ingredient brings to the party.
"They were a very willing audience, with a gender split of 50-50; who says women aren't interested in beer? And it was great to see CAMRA in attendance with their Great British Beer Experience."
