Pub of the year finalists announced
September 13, 2006: The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has revealed the 16 best pubs in Britain that appear in the new Good Beer Guide 2007.
Each of the pubs is the winner of the pub of the year competition from each of CAMRAs 16 regions. Each will now be entered into the National Pub of the Year competition, which will be announced in early 2007.
Among the criteria, pubs are judged on clientele mix, service, décor, and of course, quality of real ale.
The 16 regional winners are:
Scotland and Northern Island: Failford Inn, Failford,
South Ayrshire
North West: Wasdale Head Inn, Wasdale Head, Cumbria
North East: Kings Arms, Deptford, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
Greater Manchester: Vale Cottage, Gorton, G. Manchester
Merseyside and North Wales: Bhurtpore Arms, Aston, Cheshire
Yorkshire: West Riding Refreshment Rooms, Dewsbury Rail Station,
West Yorkshire
East Midlands: Thorold Arms, Harmston, Lincolnshire
West Midlands: Norman Knight, Whichford, Warwickshire
East Anglia: Dove Street Inn, Ipswich, Suffolk
Kent: Halfway House, Brenchley, Kent
London: Lion, Teddington, West London
Surrey and Sussex: Surrey Oaks, Newdigate, Surrey
South West: Tom Cobley Tavern, Spreyton, Devon
South Wales: Clytha Arms, Clytha, Gwent
Wessex: Digby Tap, Sherborne, Dorset
Central Southern: Bell, Aldworth, Berkshire
