Flensburger lager brewed specially for export

July 12, 2007: Flensburger draught lager is being marketed in 50 litre kegs to pubs and bars. With an ABV of 4%, it is produced in line with the German purity law from a brewery founded in 1888 on the shores of the Baltic, just south of the Danish border.

Flensburger is Germany’s most northerly brewery, still family controlled and famous for its quality and for its distinctive flip-top bottles.

Nigel Stevenson, of beer importer, James Clay, said: “Over the last few years, we have had numerous requests for a sessionable, authentic imported lager on draught. But most flavourful lagers seem to be 5% ABV and above — perhaps too high in alcohol to be truly quaffable.

“But now we have found the answer by asking one of our existing suppliers to brew a special lager just for us

“ Flensburger draught lager is produced solely for the export market and, unlike its stronger brother (Flensburger Pilsner, 4.8%, which we already import), is a much softer beer, pale golden in colour and reminiscent of a Dortmund style – a bit darker than Pilsner, with an attractively soft maltiness and less accentuated hop character.”
