Double Bock gets thumbs up from Protz

February 10, 2007: The launch of Cains' celebratory Double Bock lager has been given a ringing endorsement by leading beer writer Roger Protz.

Cains is launches its authentically brewed 8% Bock lager this month to celebrate Liverpool’s 800 years of city status in 2007, and gave Roger a sneak preview.

He described the dark lager as "superb, stunning, brilliant" and said that it had a "long, deep and complex" finish with "hints of vanilla, liquorice, oranges, nuts and juicy malt, all underscored by bitter hops".

Cains joint managing director Ajmail Dusanj is hoping that drinkers will agree with Roger Protz’s assessment. He said: “Double Bock is an important beer for us. We are no longer a regional brewery supplying the usual range of bitters and milds.

"We have taken risks, been innovative and modeled ourselves on the great continental lager brewers which have kept the traditions of beers like Bock alive.

“To be recognised as having succeeded in creating a beer which stays true to the Bavarian traditions of Bock — a lager traditionally brewed to celebrate events — is a great credit to our skilled brewers.

Double Bock Lager is now available in cask and 500ml bottles.
