Full marks, Palmers

February 10, 2007: Bridport brewer Palmers has become the first in the country to achieve full marks in the Beautiful Beer Awards scheme.

Licensees at 10 Palmers pubs applied for the Beautiful Beer Gold Award — and they all passed their assessment and received a plaque for their achievement at a presentation held at the brewery.

The Beautiful Beer Awards were launched in 2006 as the first independent, national scheme to assess pubs on their draught and bottled beers. To achieve their Gold Award successful licensees have to pass a rigorous assessment of the beer in their pub, covering storage conditions in the cellar through to the temperature of the beer in the glass.

Not only did all 10 of these licensees pass their assessment, but they did so with flying colours, scoring an average of 95% on their cellar inspection and 100% on beer samples — well above the pass mark of 85%.

Tim Woodrow, tenanted trade director at Palmers, said: "We’re very proud of this achievement by our licensees and their teams, who all had to work hard to pass their Beautiful Beer assessments. The Beautiful Beer plaques outside these pubs tells drinkers they’re guaranteed a great beer inside.”
