S&N making sound progress worldwide
August 9, 2006: Scottish & Newcastle has reported pre-tax profits up 12 per cent in the six months to June 30.
The brewers beer and cider increased by 4.8% in terms of volume, and 7.3% in net sales. Profits before tax was £187million - up £20 million on the same period last year.
The company has continued to roll-out 'super-chilled' brands, has developed the Foster's brand, for which it acquired the European trademark in May, and also rolled out new cider brands, including Sirrus, now facing strong opposition from the popular Magners brand.
The company's international interests have performed well, too, for instance in the USA, Russia and India.
Chief executive Tony Froggatt said: "We are achieving these results through our continued focus on our four strategic priorities. First, we invest behind our brands and in innovation. Secondly, we constantly improve our operational efficiency, and thirdly, we continue to build the capability of our people. Lastly, we investigate all investment opportunities for growth in both our existing and new markets. I believe that we are delivering on all four counts."
