Tory leader launches Banbury anniversary ale

April 7, 2008: Conservative Party leader David Cameron visited Hook Norton Brewery to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Banbury’s town charter.

l Conservative leader and local MP David Cameron and Hook Norton managing director James Clarke toast the 400th anniversary of Banbury being granted its town charter

While at the brewery he pulled the first pint of Banbury 400 – a beer brewed to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the establishment of a mayor and town clerk in Banbury.

Mr Cameron said: “Hook Norton is a fantastic brewer and Banbury 400 is an excellent beer. It’s delicious. “We eat and enjoy local food and in the same way we should celebrate local beer.”

Banbury 400 (4.7%) is brewed with barley malt grown in Oxfordshire and water from the brewery’s own wells. It is a pale beer with a slight orange hue and aromas of soft dark fruit, with a full and almost spicy flavour.

Hook Norton managing director James Clarke said: “David Cameron is a local MP who takes a great interest in local firms and we are honoured that he should visit us and pull the first pint of Banbury 400, which was brewed to mark the 400th anniversary of the Banbury town charter."

The beer is available on draught and in 500ml bottles.
