SABMiller completes Grolsch takeover
February 7, 2008: SABMiller has completed an €816 million takeover of Grolsch and immediately announced plans to move into emerging South American and African markets, selling higher margin premium beers, including Grolsch.
SABMiller has acquired an 80% share of Grolsch for €625 million, taking its total shareholding in the Dutch brewer to almost 95%.
Premium beer sales are seen as a major motivation behind the acquisition of Grolsch. SABMiller's existing portfolio includes brands such as Peroni and Pilsner Urquell.£
