Wadworth salutes St George with seasonal brew
March 6, 2008: Wadworth is launching seasonal cask ale St George and the Dragon to commemorate England's patron saint.
Developed
under the watchful eye of head brewer Brian Yorston, the full flavoured
beer will be available throughout the Wiltshire-based brewery's pub estate
from March 20 until the end of April.
The 4.5% pale ale, produced under the Manns brand, with its firey amber hue and crisp, tangy taste, is targeted at patriotic drinkers who want to celebrate their patron saint in the same way the Irish do.
Paul Sullivan, marketing manager for Wadworth, said: "Customers are used to celebrating St Patrick's Day in March, but most forget to raise a glass to our own patron saint.
"It's a sad fact that many Britons couldn't even tell you when St George's Day is, but we hope our springtime ale, dedicated to our patron saint, can help to make April 23 a truly national celebration."
St George and the Dragon's red and white pump clip depicts St George as he is most famously known on horseback, slaying a dragon that terrorised the mythical Libyan city of Silene.
