Vulcan campaigner calls for it to be demolished

February 6, 2010: The story of The Vulcan pub, in Cardiff, saved from the bulldozers last year, has taken a new twist with one of those who campaigned to save it now calling for it to be demolished.

Pensioner Alan Grainger, who has drunk at The Vulcan for 50 years, said that since the campaign went high profile it had attracted a new clientele which had changed the pub for the worse.

He is particularly agitated to see it become a students' drinking venue, and claims that they and other "do-gooders" who have jumped on the Save The Vulcan "bandwagon" have ruined the pub.

Save The Vulcan campaigner Rachel Thomas told Wales Online: "There are student halls next door and I don’t think it is a bad thing that students go in there. I think it is a positive thing. It means students are getting to experience a real true pub that they might not normally drink in."
