Sun readers can claim free pint of IPA
August 5, 2007: Greene King is using its 'Sign of a Great Pub' campaign to promote its beer during the Rugby World Cup.
Readers of The Sun will have the chance of a free pint of Greene King IPA in nominated Greene King pubs throughout the country when England play against South Africa on September 14.
Managing director for Greene King Local Pubs, Jonathan Lawson said: "The 'Sign of a Great Pub' campaign aims to get people to see pubs in a new light, whether through sport, food, entertainment or relaxation.
"This particular free pint offer is designed to help licensees get the most out of the World Cup, encouraging more and longer visits by current customers, as well as enticing new customers through the doors."
The campaign has already featured meal deals in The Sun and The Times and will continue with more promotions later in the year. Greene King has negotiated advertising deals with the key national newspapers and is offering each of the promotions as a free package to their managed, leased and tenanted pubs.
Mr Lawson added: Anything we can do that contributes to our pubs individual business building has got to be good news, but this promotional activity has the added advantage of building the Greene King brand at the same time.
l Greene King said yesterday it was on target to meet full-year profit targets. Ale consumption had risen during the summer, with the poor weather thought to be favouring such drinks over chilled lager. Beers such as Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale were doing well, and the integrated Hardys & Hansons brands had enjoyed 10% growth.
