Chalky's gets a bite of national success
June 5, 2008: Chalky's Bite, the light, Belgian-style beer from Cornwall's Sharp's Brewery, designed as a good accompaniment to seafood, has made it through to the final of the 2008 Quality Drinks Awards.

The awards, now in their third year, recognise and reward excellence and innovation in the world of alcoholic drinks and are one of the must-have accolades in the industry.
Chalky's Bite, brewed in conjunction with Cornwall restaurateur Rick Stein, was conceived through a challenge from the chef to Sharp's head brewer Stuart Howe. The aim was to create a beer specifically designed to be enjoyed with seafood or as an aperitif.
Stuart said:"Getting to the final of the quality drinks awards is a welcome recognition of the retail success and quality of Chalky's Bite. The awards are made for products which excel in terms of flavour and packaging, but also in terms of sales performance in the market place.
"It's great to know that Chalky's is a favourite of the consumer as well as the beer expert. Chalky's consistency is a testament to the hard work and dedication or the brewing team at Sharp's."
Launched in 2006 and named after Rick Stein's lively
terrier Chalky, the beer has subtle flavouring from wild Cornish fennel,
Cornish malted barley and a delicate balance of three different hops.
It is an English beer in a Belgian style, with the character, individuality
and quality to stand alongside the great Belgian beers.
The winners of the 2008 Quality Drink Awards will be announced on June
27 at Vinopolis in London.
